چکیده

Using the Kadanoff-Baym non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism, we derive the self-consistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) collisionless kinetic equations and the associated equation of motion for the condensate wavefunction for a trapped Bose-condensed gas. Our work generalizes earlier work by Kane and Kadanoff (KK) for a uniform Bose gas. We include the off-diagonal (anomalous) pair correlations, and thus we have to introduce an off-diagonal distribution function in addition to the normal (diagonal) distribution function. This results in two coupled kinetic equations. If the off-diagonal distribution function can be neglected as a higher-order contribution, we obtain the semi-classical kinetic equation recently used by Zaremba, Griffin and Nikuni (based on the simpler Popov approximation). We discuss the static local equilibrium solution of our coupled HFB kinetic equations within the semiclassical approximation. We also verify that a solution is the rigid in-phase oscillation of the equilibrium condensate and non-condensate density profiles,

Quasiparticle kinetic equation in a trapped Bose gas at low temperatures

Recently the authors used the Kadanoff-Baym non-equilibrium Green's function formalism to derive kinetic equation for the non-condensate atoms, in conjunction with a consistent generalization of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the Bose condensate wavefunction. This work was limited to high temperatures , where the excited atoms could be described by a Hartree-Fock particle-like spectrum. We p...

The Two-Dimensional Bose-Einstein Condensate

We study the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field theory as applied to a two-dimensional finite trapped Bose gas at low temperatures and find that, in the Hartree-Fock approximation, the system can be described either with or without the presence of a condensate; this is true in the thermodynamic limit as well. We are unable to find condensate solutions when we consider a scheme that predicts the...

Effect of the thermal gas component on the stability of vortices in trapped Bose–Einstein condensates

We study the stability of vortices in trapped single-component Bose–Einstein condensates within self-consistent mean-field theories; in particular, we consider the Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov–Popov theory and its recently proposed gapless extensions. It is shown that for sufficiently repulsively interacting systems the anomalous negative-energy modes related to vortex instabilities are lifted to po...

Quantized circulation in dilute Bose–Einstein condensates

We compute using a microscopic mean-field theory the structure and the quasiparticle excitation spectrum of a dilute, trapped Bose–Einstein condensate penetrated by an axisymmetric vortex line. The Gross–Pitaevskii equation for the condensate and the coupled Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov–Popov equations describing the elementary excitations are solved self-consistently using finite-difference methods...

in trapped Bose gases

We study the dynamics of condensate formation in an inhomogeneous trapped Bose gas with a positive interatomic scattering length. We take into account both the nonequilibrium kinetics of the thermal cloud and the Hartree-Fock mean-field effects in the condensed and the noncondensed parts of the gas. We solve our equations numerically by assuming that the thermal component behaves ergodically an...
